She let me cry and shared positive stories about other deaf children thriving. Gradually, I began to see the support within the deaf community. Kids with hearing loss can lead very normal lives with a little assistance. This realisation helped me shift my perspective. At least it wasn’t life-threatening, and there was a community ready to support us.

Grief is a funny thing and that's exactly what it was, it felt like a loss.... I lost something I never got to have, I was grieving for the baby and motherhood I thought I was going to have and never got.

The dreams I had for my son seemed to crumble, replaced by fear and guilt.
